Radio Ground Strap Installation

1. Carefully remove the center console side panels. Make sure that the wood finish of the shift lever surround does not become damaged (figure 1).

2. Remove the 4 mounting screws in the HVAC control unit.

3. Pull the HVAC control unit out of the dashboard housing and position it to the right side so that the left side of the housing is still accessible (figure 2).

4. Locate and remove the lower left side dashboard to console mounting bracket bolt (figure 3).

NOTE:
The lower left side mounting bolt is partially hidden by the "noise vibration harshness" (NVH) panel. Move the NVH panel back to expose the mounting bolt (figure 3).

5. Remove the radio trim carefully by prying the trim evenly to prevent damage to the plastic fasteners.

6. Remove the radio from the mount using the radio puller tool.

7. Remove the rubber plug on the back of the radio stud, and disconnect the antenna leads.

8. Fasten the larger eyelet end of the radio ground strap to the hole shown in figure 3.

9. Use the trilobular screw (paint clearing) and plain washer provided to replace the bolt removed in step 4 above.

10. Route the other end of the ground strap up to the radio area making sure that the strap passes through the hole in the rear plate of the dashboard support bracket (figure 3).

NOTE:
If the ground strap is not routed properly, it will become caught on the bracket and the radio cannot be installed properly.

11. Install the ground strap smaller eyelet to the stud on the back of the radio. The flat side of the eyelet should face the radio.

12. Install the star washer (M5), and the nut (M5). Make sure that the ground strap is routed to the left side towards the CD connector on the back of the radio.

13. Tighten the nut and reinstall the rubber plug onto the stud (figure 4).

14. Remove the red marker from the one antenna lead and attach it onto the other antenna lead.

15. Connect the antenna lead that now has the red marker to the radio red input terminal. Then connect the other lead to the remaining terminal.

16. Place the radio back into the radio mount and make sure that the wiring is not pinched behind the radio. If the radio will not go back into place easily, guide the wiring (without forcing it) by going through the area of the extracted HVAC control unit.

17. Reinstall the radio and fasten the radio trim to the front of the radio.

18. Reinstall the HVAC control unit and the center console side panels (figures 1 and 2).
