Output Shaft Speed Sensor
Output Shaft Speed Sensor Description
The Output Shaft Speed sensor is mounted within the transmission.
It provides a square wave input to the Automatic Transmission Control Module. The information is used by the module to calculate the correct gear and for self-diagnosis.
There are five diagnostic checks for the Output Shaft Speed Sensor.
A fault is detected if:
1. No signal - Gear change is active and the engine speed (4-3 gear shift) is greater than 3744 RPM.
2. Out of range check - Gear change is active and the engine speed (4-3 gear shift) is greater than 2688 RPM.
3. Out of range check - Gear change is active and the engine speed (3-2 gear shift) is greater than 3072 RPM.
4. Rationality check - The engine speed is greater than or equal to 2600 RPM and the output shaft speed sensor indicates 0 RPM.
5. Speed ratio plausibility - The engine speed is greater than a mapped value and the input verses output shaft speed ratio is implausible.
For the diagnostic table, please refer to the individual codes (i.e. P0721, P0722, P0730 or P0740). P0721
If the above table does not include details of the following enabling conditions: - IAT ECT, vehicle speed range, and time after engine start-up then the state of these parameters has no influence upon the execution of the monitor.
