Transmission Range/Position Switch

Transmission Range/Position Switch Description

The position switch is the electrical input to the Automatic Transmission Control Module regarding the gear lever position.

Each line of the position switch is connected to ground.
The movement of the gear lever will make or break with 3 different sliding contacts. This creates a coded representation of the selector position. These 3 wires go directly to the Automatic Transmission Control Module (Terminals L1, L2 and L3) where they are decoded. The software will then decide if the selected gear can be safely engaged without damage to the transmission and engine.

There are two diagnostic checks for the Transmission Range/Position Switch.
A fault is detected if:
1. The engine is cranking with a speed of greater than or equal to 448 RPM and the selector position indicates neither PARK nor NEUTRAL.
2. The engine is running with a speed of greater than or equal to 448 RPM but the gear selector switches indicate an invalid code.

For the diagnostic table, please refer to the individual code (i.e. P0705). P0705

If the above table does not include details of the following enabling conditions: - AT, ECT, vehicle speed range, and time after engine start-up then the state of these parameters has no influence upon the execution of the monitor.
