Component Tests and General Diagnostics

This section covers mechanical, fuse, and possible relay faults that could occur in the wiper and washer system. Visual checks of components within the system and relevant fuses should be carried out before undertaking detailed fault diagnosis procedures, which are covered on TestBook.

1. Symptom - Front Wiper System Inoperative.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Blown wiper system fuse.
REMEDY
^ Check and replace fuse 25.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Loose wiper system electrical connections.
REMEDY
^ Secure relevant connections.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty relay.
REMEDY
^ Renew relay RL-1.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty wiper motor.
REMEDY
^ Renew wiper motor.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty multi-switch.
REMEDY

2. Symptom - Front Wipers Inoperative.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Loose wiper motor electrical connections.
REMEDY
^ Check and secure all relevant connections.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Disengaged or loose wiper motor linkage.
REMEDY
^ Check, tighten, or renew linkage fixings.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty wiper motor.
REMEDY
^ Renew wiper motor.

3. Symptom - Front Wipers Not Operating In Slow Or Fast Modes.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty relay.
REMEDY
^ Renew relay RL-8.

4. Symptoms - Windscreen Washer Jets - Inoperative Or Functioning Erratically

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Empty washer reservoir.
REMEDY
^ Refill washer reservoir.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Washer jet/s blocked.
REMEDY
^ Clear obstruction with a needle or strand of wire.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Loose or disconnected washer tubes/connectors.
REMEDY
Check and secure all relevant connections.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty non return valve.
REMEDY
^ Renew non return valve.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Screen wash flow restricted or blocked in washer tubes.
REMEDY
^ Check for kinks in washer tubes or that retaining clips are not over tightened.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Loose or disconnected washer pump multi-plug.
REMEDY
^ Reconnect multi-plug.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty washer pump.
REMEDY
^ Renew washer pump.

5. Symptom - Rear Wiper Motor - Inoperative.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Blown wiper motor fuse.
REMEDY
^ Check and renew fuse 15.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Loose or disconnected wiper motor plug lead.
REMEDY
^ Reconnect plug lead.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty wiper motor.
REMEDY
^ Renew wiper motor.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty multi-switch.
REMEDY

6. Symptom - Rear Wiper Arm/Blade Inoperative.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Loose or disconnected wiper motor plug lead.
REMEDY
^ Reconnect plug lead.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Loose wiper arm fixing.
REMEDY
^ Secure fixing.

7. Symptom - Rear Screen Washer Jet - Inoperative or Functioning Erratically.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

^ Check and renew fuse 38.

^ Loose or disconnected wiper motor multi-plug.
REMEDY
^ Reconnect multi-plug.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty wiper motor relay.
REMEDY
^ Renew relay RL-11.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty wiper motor.
REMEDY
^ Renew wiper motor.

^ 2 Loose wiper arm fixing.
REMEDY
^ Secure fixing

^ Low level sensor plug loose or disconnected.
REMEDY
^ Reconnect sensor plug.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Faulty low level sensor.
REMEDY
^ Renew sensor.
