Replace the ECU
CAUTION:The T4 software support situation with the installation and update of the new Automatic Transmission ECU requires careful attention to the NOTES and CAUTIONS in the following series of steps.
CAUTION:
Use of special T4 disc "DRGTL28U" is not recommended.
1. Connect TestBook/T4 to the vehicle and load T4 disc "Freelander 29" or a later version.
2. Refer to TIB TB/01/04/NAS "LCS Code Troubleshooting Strategy",distributed in association with this Service Action, and ensure that all LCS code issues are corrected.
NOTE:
Disc "Freelander 29" may present the message "INCORRECT OR UNKNOWN ECM FITTED" with an indication that " ...the CD-ROM loaded is NOT UP TO ..." This message will appear if the LCS code and tune problems have not been completely corrected. Freelander 29 is the latest disc available, but when this message appears Free lander 28 must be used to correct the problem because of programming limits contained in Freelander 29.
3. If the Incorrect or unknown ECM fitted message is displayed, attempt the ECM tune updates using the "Freelander 28" disc.
4. If the problem persists, contact the Land Rover Technical HelpLine at 888 577 8577 Option 3 Item 4 for assistance.
5. Select "Diagnostic System".
6. Follow the on-screen instructions and select "Vehicle Configuration".
7. Follow the on-screen instructions and select "Auto Gearbox ECU checks".
8. Follow the on-screen instructions and select Yes to change the ECU hardware.
9. Refer to RAVE/GTR section 44.15.46 and install the new ECU from kit TGM500070K.
10. Follow the on-screen instructions and download the new configuration software.
11. Remove the fuse when instructed.
12. Follow on-screen instructions and disconnect T4 from the vehicle.
13. Bend the connector pins on the removed transmission ECU to prevent re-use and discard.
