Campaign - A/C Hose Routing/Inspection/Replacement
No: H295Ref:
Issue: 1
Date: 11/22/02
SERVICE ACTION
Air Conditioner Hose Routing
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Freelander (LN) 2A353298 to 2A375380
SITUATION:
VARIABLE CLEARANCE BETWEEN AIR CONDITIONING HOSE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD
The high pressure A/C hose may not be properly positioned or securely located because of production variations. An incorrectly mounted hose could come in contact with the exhaust manifold resulting in damage to the hose.
RESOLUTION:
INSPECT AND IF NECESSARY PROPERLY POSITION THE A/C HOSE
Inspect the position of the high pressure A/C hose to verify proper installation. Determine if chaffing against the manifold has caused any damage. If damage is evident replace the hose and in all cases ensure that clearance and proper location of the hose is maintained using a tie wrap.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSPECT AND IF INDICATED INSTALL NEW A/C HOSE
NOTE:
Many vehicles may already have been rectified at the port of entry. An inspection must be undertaken to ensure these vehicles meet the Service Action hose clearance requirement.
1. Ensure ignition is switched off.
2. Raise hood and locate high-pressure air conditioning hose.
WARNING:
The exhaust manifold may be extremely hot. Exercise care to avoid burns or damage to components and tools.
3. Inspect to determine if a tie wrap has been used to secure the hose to the right hand fan motor assembly lower left leg (Figure 1) and that adequate 20 mm (1/2 inch) clearance exists between the exhaust manifold and air conditioning hose.
4. If a tie wrap IS present and the 20 mm clearance is present NO further action is required. Claim Option A.
5. If a tie wrap IS NOT present, perform the following:
^ Inspect the air conditioning hose for heat damage.
^ If no damage is observed, install tie wrap, cut off excess and claim Option A.
6. If a tie wrap IS NOT present and inspection of the hose reveals heat damage, perform the following:
^ Refer to the RAVE Workshop Manual section 82.30.02, evacuate the AC system and replace the hose.
^ Install a tie wrap to the hose securing it to the right hand fan motor assembly lower left leg. Cut off excess tie wrap material to avoid fouling fan. (Figure 1).
^ Verify adequate 20 mm (1/2 inch) clearance exists between the exhaust manifold and air conditioning hose and claim Option B.
INSTALL CAMPAIGN LABEL
NOTE:
Campaign labels may have multiple Campaign numbers written on them if multiple campaigns are performed at the same time.
1. When all specified repairs have been accomplished, prepare the campaign label (LRN0002LABEL) as follows:
a) Place the label on a hard surface.
b) Use a ballpoint pen to neatly write/scribe in the bare aluminum areas of the label the following information:
^ Service Action code "H295"
^ Your retailer code
^ The date of repair
2. Clean all grease and dirt from the radiator support member.
3. Peel the completed campaign label from the backing paper and position it on the cleaned area.
4. Roll the label with the special roller tool to ensure proper adhesion.
