Air Conditioning Line Foul
Land Rover has identified a potential foul situation between the high pressure AC line and the front exhaust manifold on Freelander vehicles. To proactively prevent damage, Retailers should conduct the following inspection at PDI for all Freelander vehicles to ensure that 10 mm of clearance is present between the line and the exhaust manifold.
INSPECT AC LINE
1. Open the vehicle hood and prop open with support rod.
WARNING:
Catalytic Converters and exhaust Systems can become extremely hot after even short periods of operation. Ensure the engine is cold before attempting this inspection process to avoid injury.
2. Move your right hand down inside the support rod and between the upper and lower radiator hoses.
3. With your hand between the exhaust system and the AC high-pressure line, insert your little finger between the line and the catalyst as a "10 mm gauge."
4. Run the tip of your finger between the AC line and the exhaust manifold along the indicated path (Figure 1)
5. Verify that the "10 mm" gap is present and no contact exists with the exhaust manifold.
6. If no damage is found and 10 mm clearance exists at all locations along the AC line, no additional action is required.
NOTE:
Tie wrap must resist temperature up to 135 C (275 F). Recommended source is McMaster Carr part number 70215K85. Phone 732 329 3200.
7. If less than 10 mm clearance is found, perform the following:
^ Secure the line to the lower left fan support of the upper fan using a heat resistant tie wrap. (Figure 2)
^ Recheck the pipe for the 10 mm clearance.
8. If damage is found or a 10 mm gap cannot be achieved, contact the Technical HelpLine.
