Freelander Thermostat Flow Restriction
Some Freelander vehicles have experienced engine overheating and coolant expulsion. One possible cause of these symptoms is a molding flaw in the thermostat housing which restricts flow in the cooling system.
The molding flaw may also be present in spare parts (PEM000030). Inspect all current inventory of PEMOOOO3O to determine if the restriction is present. Refer to Figure 1 and determine if a noticeable restriction or a substantial amount of molding "flash" is present near the bend of the top thermostat passage.
If a faulty thermostat is found, take the following steps:
^ Ensure that the faulty inventory is isolated and cannot be sold.
^ Generate a PAF using reason code "OH" and noting this Alert number as the reference.
NOTE:
Always ensure that the cooling system has been properly bled after work has been performed on the system.
Whenever an overheating problem is encountered and the root cause is determined to be the thermostat, inspect the replacement component for passage restriction prior to installation.
