Freelander (LN) Mirror Paint Peels/Flakes

Situation

Spare parts components (CRB000460PMD and CRB000470PMD) may have been produced with an improper painting process that does not provide sufficient paint adhesion. Additionally, if old manufacturing inventory has been used, the symptoms may be observed on early production NAS specification Freelander vehicles also.

Resolution

NOTE:
The date is written in "European order" so the numbers on the label represent the day/month/year.

Mirrors which peel or flake must be replaced with parts dated 01 May 2002 or later. Part numbers were NOT changed when the process improvement was made, although new part numbers have been added to the catalog AFTER the changeover to the revised painting process. The date code MUST be used to determine the improved components.

The date code white label can be located under the foam pad on the mirror mounting face. Parts manufactured from the May date are manufactured with a revised paint finish to prevent a re-occurrence of the problem.

Follow normal warranty procedures for mirrors installed on vehicles.

Parts information

If you have any CRB000460PMD or CRB000470PMD spare parts with date codes prior to "01/05/02" in your inventory, these should be returned as "faulty paint finish" through the parts system. Enter "OH" on the PAF form and reference this Alert.
