Expansion Tank Replacement Method
Change
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Freelander (LN)
All
SITUATION:
TIME STUDY EFFICIENCY
Methods engineers at Land Rover have recently studied the service process for renewal of the expansion tank assembly for Freelander models, and significant process changes have been made.
The changes, detailed below, refine and improve the process which allow the operation to be carried out more efficiently.
RESOLUTION:
EXPANSION TANK REPLACEMENT
Should it become necessary to remove an expansion tank assembly on a Freelander, refer to the procedure detailed in this bulletin. The coolant hose is now clamped to avoid coolant loss. With this method it is unnecessary to bleed entire cooling system saving time.
Repair time 26.15.01 has been reduced from 0.40 hours to 0.20 hours as the result of this change.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
REMOVE EXPANSION TANK
1. Position a suitable container to collect coolant.
2. Install a hose-clamping plier to the coolant hose between the coolant rail and the expansion tank, as close to the expansion tank as possible to avoid excessive coolant loss.
3. Release the hose clamp and disconnect the coolant rail hose from the expansion tank. (A in Figure 1)
4. Release the hose clamp and disconnect the bleed hose from the expansion tank. (B in Figure 1)
5. Remove the scrivet securing the expansion tank and remove the expansion tank. (C in Figure 1)
INSTALL EXPANSION TANK
1. Position the replacement expansion tank and secure with the scrivet.
2. Connect the coolant rail hose and bleed hose and secure with hose clamps.
3. Remove the clamping pliers from coolant rail hose.
4. Remove the coolant expansion tank cap.
