Body - Tailgate Glass Lowers By Itself With Key OFF
No: 86/09/03/NASRef:
*Issue: 2
Date: 07/25/03*
Tail Door Window Random Operation
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Freelander (LN) Up to 3A238863
* indicates updated information
SITUATION:
TAIL DOOR LOWERS WITH KEY OFF
The customer may complain that the tail door glass moves to the fully lowered position without driver intervention. This can occur while the vehicle is parked with the ignition turned OFF. External interference can influence the Central Control Unite (CCU) because of a software error within the CCU.
*Also attempts to close an open tail door window when the vehicle is being driven may not close the window. It will return to the down position after nearly closing when the interior switch is activated.*
RESOLUTION:
TROUBLESHOOT SYSTEM AND REPLACE CCU IF INDICATED
Verify that the problem is not the result of incorrect use of the remote access "plip" and that related systems in the 3-door vehicles are operating correctly. Once other sources of the problem have been eliminated, replace the CCU and program using TestBook/T4.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSTALL NEW CCU
NOTE:
The drop feature is operated from the remote handset by holding the unlock button on the plip for two seconds. The tail door glass will fully lower. To move the window to a closed position the key must be inserted into the tail door lock and rotated clockwise. The window may also be raised using the rocker switch on the dash. Inadvertent use of this remote activated feature can result in the tail door window opening "unexpectedly" for a customer without full knowledge of this function.
1. Confirm initially that the window drop facility has not been used accidentally.
2. If the vehicle is a 3 door Hardback, refer to TIB 86/01/03/NAS and confirm satisfactory electrical and mechanical operation of the roof off micro switch.
3. If roof off switch function is correct and the customer has not used the window drop feature, perform the following:
^ Refer to RAVE section 86.55.75, and replace the CCU with updated component (YWC000493). Program the replacement CCU to market requirements using TestBook/T4.
