Proper Seat Back Upholstery Installation

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Freelander (LN) All 3-door variants

SITUATION:

INCORRECT INSTALLATION OF NEW SEAT BACK COVER

Installation of a replacement seat cover on 3-door front seat backs requires a slit to be made in the side panel for the backrest release lever escutcheon. If the slit is cut beyond the top and bottom edges of the escutcheon, the installation looks unsightly and gives the impression that the cover is faulty.

RESOLUTION:

FOLLOW PROPER INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

When changing a front seat back cover on 3-door vehicles, the procedures in this TIB must be followed in detail. The cut must be in the correct position and the correct size for the release lever escutcheon to obtain a proper fit.

3. Insert scissors into the cover at the bottom of the slot in the escutcheon. (Figure 3).

CAUTION:
The cut must NOT exceed 60 mm.

4. Cut upwards and create a slit in the cover to a maximum length of 60 mm (2-3/8 inch). (Figure 4)

5. Measure 3 mm (1/8 inch) inwards from the top of the slit.

6. Cut two slits at approximately 22.5 degrees from the slit, 7 mm (1/4 inch) long. (Figure 5)

7. Measure 3 mm (1/8 inch) inwards from the bottom of the slit.

8. Cut two slits at approximately 22.5 degrees from the slit, 7 mm (1/4 inch) long. (Figure 5)

9. Start at the top right-hand corner (Position 1 Figure 6) and tuck the fabric behind the escutcheon.

NOTE:
Make sure there are no visible slits around the escutcheon.

10. Refer to Figure 2 and inspect to ensure that all cut lines are tucked behind the escutcheon.
