Interior Light Incorrect Operation

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

Freelander (LN) Up to 4A445198

SITUATION:

INTERIOR LIGHT EITHER INOPERATIVE OR PERMANENTLY ILLUMINATED

The Interior lamp wires can become trapped by the lamp mounting screws on 3-door vehicles or on 5-door vehicles the wiring can chafe on the roof harness mounting clip at the top of the "A" pillar.

RESOLUTION:

INSPECT AND REPAIR WIRING

Should a customer complain of inoperative of continuously illuminated interior light, perform the inspection and repair procedure detailed below.

DDW WARRANTY CLAIMS:





DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply. Material allowance is included in labor operation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSPECT AND REPAIR LAMP WIRING ON 3-DOOR VARIANTS

NOTE:
GTR lookup sequence is as follows:

1. Refer to GTR Workshop Manual section 76.64.15 steps 5 - 7 and remove the interior lamp.

2. Visually inspect the lamp wiring for signs of damage.

3. Repair any observed wiring damage.





4. Route the wires so they no longer pass through the centre hole of the mounting plate. (Arrowed in Figure 1)

5. Install the interior lamp taking care that the wires are not trapped.

INSPECT AND REPAIR LAMP WIRING ON 5-DOOR VARIANTS

NOTE:
GTR lookup sequence is as follows:

1. Refer to GTR Workshop Manual section 76.13.26 and remove "A" pillar upper trim finishers.

2. Refer to section Workshop Manual 76.10.47 and remove sun visors.

3. Remove interior lamp lens.

4. Remove the two fasteners securing the front interior lamp to the body and release from the headliner.

5. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the lamp.

6. Remove screw covers and screws from grab handles.

NOTE:
It may be necessary to support the headliner once the grab handles have been removed.

7. Remove grab handles and support headliner if required.

8. Remove grab handle blanking plugs.

9. Visually inspect the wiring harness where it is secured by the harness clip at the top of the left-hand "A" pillar for signs of damage.

10. Repair observed wiring damage.





11. Apply two layers of tape to the metal edge of the body adjacent to the wiring harness. (Arrowed in Figure 2)

12. Install removed components.
