RECALL
Replace Non-Compliant A-Pillar Trim
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

SITUATION:
TESTING REVEALS NON-COMPLIANT TRIM
Tests completed during a Conformity of Production assessment on behalf of the NHTSA have revealed that Freelander vehicle A-pillar trim may not fully meet the stated requirement for the Head Impact Criteria aspect of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 201.
RESOLUTION:
REPLACE A-PILLAR TRIM
Vehicles within the affected VIN range are to have the A-pillar trim replaced with a revised component that enables the vehicle to fully meet the requirements of FMVSS 201.

NOTE:
Removed A-pillar trim components are to be cut in two and scrapped.
Warranty claims should be submiffed quoting the program code and option from the table in place of the normal warranty complaint code. This will result in payment of the stated time and, where applicable parts/miscellaneous expense. The SRO is provided for information only.
Drive in/drive out should only be claimed when the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.
Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSTALL REPLACEMENT A-PILLAR TRIM
NOTE:
To access the Trim Replacement procedure the GTR lookup sequence is as follows: GTR Home > NAS > Service Information/ LN Freelander/2004 > Workshop Manuals > Service Procedures > Interior Trim Components - 76-3-1 > Trim finisher - "A" post - upper - renew
1. Refer to GTR section 76.13.26 and remove both left hand and right hand A-pillar trim. (Figure 1)
NOTE:
The extra plastic tab at the top of the A-pillar trim is required for 3-door variants. The tab must be removed when the trim panel is used for 5-door versions of Freelander.
2. If the vehicle is a 5-door variant, clip the white plastic upper mounting tab from the replacement trim panel using wire cutters or other suitable cutting tool to cut the plastic rivet. (Figure 2)
3. Install the latest configuration left and right hand A-pillar components following the GTR procedure.
