A/C - Squeak/Squeal When Switched To Recirculation Mode

'Squeak' / 'Squeal' Noise After Selecting Recirculation





AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

After selecting 'Recirculation' on the climate control panel, a 'squeak' or 'squeal' noise is heard. The noise is generated by the movement between the two resin linkages due to dust contamination of the lubricating grease.

NOTE:
The Repair Procedure has changed extensively. The previous Repair Procedure is no longer valid and must no longer be performed.

Action:

In the event of a customer concern of the above, follow the Repair Procedure outlined below to lubricate the two recirculation flap resin linkages.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

GREASE RECIRCULATION FLAP LINKAGES - LR3






1. Remove the instrument panel console. (Figure 1)





2. Remove the passenger side register trim panel: (Figure 2)

^ Release the two clips.





3. Remove the stowage compartment tray. (Figure 3)

4. Turn ignition 'ON'.

NOTE:
Ensure recirculation indicator is NOT illuminated.

5. Set climate control to 'Fresh Air' mode.





^ Once 'Fresh Air' mode is activated, the recirculation flap lever will be visible. (Figure 4)

6. Turn ignition 'OFF'.

NOTE:
Instrument panel cover removed for clarity.





7. Locate recirculation flap lever. (Figure 5)

WARNING:
Observe all applicable health and safety precautions; wear protective gloves.

WARNING:
Use only grease LR020046.





8. Apply grease to the lever slide: (Figure 6)

^ Approximate quantity as shown in Figure 6.

9. Turn ignition 'ON'.

10. Alternately select 'Recirculation' and 'Fresh Air' mode on the climate control panel to open / close the recirculation flap, distributing the grease on the lever.

^ It may be necessary to repeat the open / close cycle 10 times.

11. Verify noise has been eliminated.

12. Turn ignition 'OFF'.

13. If squeak / squeal noise is still evident, repeat steps 8 - 12.

14. Install stowage compartment tray.

15. Install the passenger side register trim panel.

16. Install the instrument panel console.

NOTE:

GREASE RECIRCULATION FLAP LINKAGES - RANGE ROVER SPORT





1. Remove the audio side trim panel. (Figure 7)

^ Release the four clips.





2. Remove the center reinforcement trim panel. (Figure 8)





3. Remove the stowage compartment side trim panel: (Figure 10)





4. Remove the stowage compartment tray. (Figure 11)

5. Turn ignition 'ON'.

NOTE:
Ensure recirculation indicator is NOT illuminated.

6. Set climate control to 'Fresh Air' mode.





^ Once 'Fresh Air' mode is activated, the recirculation flap lever will be visible. (Figure 12)

7. Turn ignition 'OFF'.

NOTE:
Instrument panel cover removed for clarity.





8. Locate recirculation flap lever. (Figure 13)

WARNING:

Use only grease LR020046.





9. Apply grease to the lever slide: (Figure 14)

^ Approximate quantity as shown in Figure 14.

10. Turn ignition 'ON'.

11. Alternately select 'Recirculation' and 'Fresh Air' mode on the climate control panel to open / close the recirculation flap, distributing the grease on the lever.

^ It may be necessary to repeat the open / close cycle 10 times.

12. Verify noise has been eliminated.

13. Turn ignition 'OFF'.

14. If squeak / squeal noise is still evident, repeat steps 9 - 13.

15. Install stowage compartment tray.

16. Install the stowage compartment side trim panel

17. Install the center reinforcement trim panel.

18. Install the audio side trim panel.
