REPAIR PROCEDURE

CORRECTLY INSTALL DOOR MOLDING

NOTE:
The entire Repair Procedure must be read before attempting molding installation. Where there is evidence that a door molding has not been installed according to these procedures and later delaminates, Land Rover will not pay for repair costs under warranty.

CAUTION:
Cleaning solutions must not be sprayed directly onto painted surfaces. Workshop rags are not to be used to clean the door surfaces. Paper towels, solvent wipes or clean lint free cloth must be used to clean door surface.

CAUTION:
The adhesive protection backing on the new door molding is not to be removed until directed. To avoid excessive exposure to air, the protective backing should only be removed when the molding is ready for installation.

1. Check to see all moldings are present and undamaged.

2. Before removing the protective backing or beginning installation, carefully check the position and alignment of each molding to the corresponding area of the vehicle.

NOTE:
It is only necessary to clean the surface area of the door that will be covered by the molding. Surface cleaning may need to be repeated 4-5 times to remove any residue.

Prior to installation of the door molding, the adhesive backing on the molding and the cleaned surface of the door should not be touched or contaminated.

3. Prepare the area of the door that will be covered by the molding as follows:

^ Apply a suitable alcohol/degreasing solvent cleaner to a clean paper towel and thoroughly clean each vehicle surface where a door molding is to be applied

^ Clean the door area 4-5 times.

^ Test the cleaned door surface for any residue by applying masking tape to the surface.

^ If the tape peels without resistance, continue cleaning until the residue is removed and the tape sticks firmly to the surface.

NOTE:
Part temperature and vehicle surface temperature must be 17°C (warm to touch) or higher for good adhesion.

4. Verify that the air and door surface temperatures are 17°C (62.5°F) or higher.

5. If the door or molding surface temperature is below the recommended 17°C (62.5°F), use a suitable hot air gun to heat the surface and the door molding.

CAUTION:
The molding protective backing should only be removed as each molding is ready for installation to avoid excessive exposure to air.

NOTE:
Larger moldings should be installed beginning from one end and working toward the other end. The molding installation must not start from the center of the part.

After all moldings have been correctly positioned, use the palm of the hands or fingertips and press firmly over the entire surface of each molding

6. Install each individual door molding as follows:

^ Remove the protective backing from the molding to be applied.

^ Follow kit instructions to align and lightly position molding in place.

Install the molding beginning from one end and work toward the other end.
