3.2 Torque Converter
3.2 Torque Converter3.2.1 Description
An electronic pressure regulating solenoid, which is controlled by the TCM, hydraulically controls the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC). This allows the torque converter to have three states of operation as follows:
^ Fully engaged
^ Controlled slip variable engagement
^ Fully disengaged.
The torque converter is monitored for excessive slip by comparing engine speed and the input shaft speed. If the level of slip is too high then a timer is started. If the level of slip does not fall below the threshold before the timer expires then a failure is logged. Failures on two drive cycles will cause the MIL to illuminate.
If the above table does not include details of the following enabling conditions: - IAT, ECT, vehicle speed range, and time after engine start-up then the state of these parameters has no influence upon the execution of the monitor.
