SERVICE ACTION: Tailgate Window Heater Element Check

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Land Rover LR2 (LF) VIN: 8H059189 to 8H067704 (Specific Vehicles)

CONDITION SUMMARY:

TAILGATE WINDOW HEATER ELEMENT CHECK AND REPAIR

Situation:

A number of 2008MY LR2 vehicles for the Canadian market and a few destined for United States Retailers may exhibit radio interference when the tailgate window glass heater is switched 'ON.' There may also be a reduction in the defrost performance of the tailgate window glass.

Action:











Unsold vehicles on the appended VIN listing shown must be inspected and, if required, repaired prior to retail delivery to the customer. Sold vehicles in the list are to be checked and, if indicated, repaired at the next service opportunity. Refer to the Repair Procedure in this bulletin.

NOTE:
Always check DDW to verify that the vehicle is affected by this Action prior to undertaking any repair. Some vehicles have been repaired at ports and at the factory. It is possible that a VIN has already been repaired. DDW reflects only those specific vehicles affected and un-repaired.

Warranty claims should be submitted quoting program code Q031 together with the appropriate option code. As option codes are used, there is no requirement to enter parts or labor. They are provided in the table for information only.

Drive in/drive out can only be claimed if the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this Service Action alone to be undertaken.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

CHECK TAILGATE WINDOW HEATING GRID AND REPLACE WINDOW IF INDICATED

1. Place the shift lever in the "P" (Park) position, with the parking brake 'ON'.





2. Insert the key into slot, and verify that it is latched in the slot. (Figure 1)





3. Apply the brake pedal and pressing the 'Start/Stop' engine button to start the engine. (Figure 2)

4. Tune the radio to a strong FM station (preferably talk radio).





5. Press the button for the tailgate window glass heater. (Figure 3)

6. Listen for radio interference.

7. If there is no radio interference, perform the following:

^ Open the tailgate by pressing the button on the tailgate handle.





^ Inspect the tailgate window glass for breaks in zones 'A', 'B' and 'C' of the heater elements. (Figure 4)

8. If there is radio interference or if there are any visible breaks in the tailgate window glass heater elements, refer to GTR and install a new tailgate window glass.

9. If there are no breaks in the tailgate window glass heater elements and no radio interference, no action is required.
