REPAIR PROCEDURE

REMOVE, INSPECT, RE-SEAL AND INSTALL THE CRANKSHAFT MAIN BEARING CARRIER

NOTE:
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:

GTR Home > NAS > Service Information > Vehicle > Year > Workshop Manual > Bookmark 'Powertrain/Engine/303-01A: Engine - 4.2L OR 303-01B: Engine - 4.4L LINK "Removal and Installation Crankshaft Main Bearing Carrier (12.21.42)'

NOTE:
The crankshaft main bearing carrier must be checked for warpage prior to reassembly of the engine.

1. Refer to GTR section 303-01A for Supercharged 4.2L engines or 303-01B for Normally Aspirated 4.4L engines and remove the crankshaft main bearing carrier.

CAUTION:
The maximum allowable warpage of the crankshaft main bearing carrier is 0.6 mm (0.024 in). The area around the high pressure oil gallery must be checked thoroughly.

2. Inspect the crankshaft main bearing carrier for warpage using a straight-edge over a 100 mm X 100 mm (4.0 in X 4.0 in) area and a feeler gauge to check for a maximum of 0.60 mm (0.024 in) of warpage to the crankshaft main bearing carrier.

3. If there is less than 0.60mm (0.024in) of warpage evident, refer to GTR section 303-01A for Supercharged 4.2L engines or 303-01B for Normally Aspirated 4.4L engines and install the crankshaft main bearing carrier.

4. If there is more than 0.60 mm (0.024 in) of warpage evident, install a new engine as a separate warranty claim.
