High Level Display Front Volume Erratic

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation: The High Level Display Front (HLDF) volume may be erratic, jumps up in stages, or functions backwards (request volume up but volume decreases). This may be caused by an incorrect resistance value to the volume button rheostat.

Action: In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to update the Front Entertainment Control Module software.

IDS with IDS-DVD120_V6.08 or later and Calibration 29 or later Land Rover-Approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

UPDATE THE FRONT ENTERTAINMENT CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE

CAUTION:
Ensure all ignition 'ON' / ignition 'OFF' requests are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the vehicle.

CAUTION:
A Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during IDS diagnosis / module programming.

1. Connect the Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle battery.

2. Turn ignition ON (engine not running).

NOTE:
IDS must be loaded with IDS-DVD120_V6.08 or later and Calibration File 29 or later.

4. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.

5. From the Session Type selection screen, choose 'Diagnosis'.

6. Select the Selected Symptoms tab, and then select:

^ Electrical > Infotainment and entertainment system > Entertainment system > Audio

7. Select 'continue'.

8. Select the 'Recommendations' tab.

9. From the Recommendations tab, select Run to configure the 'Front entertainment control module'

^ Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.

10. Exit the current session.

11. Disconnect the IDS.

UPDATE THE SUB MICRO SOFTWARE

NOTE:
The Sub Micro Software is the Firmware for the system. Firmware controls the system timing, electronic filtering, and other hardware-based activities. Updating the Sub Micro Software will reduce electronic noise caused by the failing rotary encoder and is achieved by modifying the firmware to filter the noise.

1. Push the home menu screen icon on the HLDF.

2. Press and hold the top-center of the touchscreen for five (5) seconds.

3. Press and hold the navigation icon.

4. Enter '7 5 3'.

5. Press 'OK'.

6. Press and hold the configuration button on the diagnostics menu screen.

7. Press the 'sub CPU' button.

8. Press 'Yes'.

9. Once the Sub Micro update has been completed, the logo and then home screens will appear.

10. Disconnect the Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply from the vehicle.
