Suspension Will Not Lower - Repair Procedure

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

A situation has been identified where corrosion or contamination may be blocking the air suspension compressor exhaust muffler causing the vehicle to not lower and possibly store Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1A13-64. A new dryer desiccant gives improved durability by keeping the system dry to prevent further corrosion. A new muffler with an additional hole will allow any residual corrosion debris to escape.

Action:

Should a customer complain of the symptoms above, install a new air suspension compressor dryer kit and compressor exhaust muffler. Follow the repair procedure outlined below.

WARRANTY:

NOTE:
Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

MUFFLER REMOVAL

NOTE:
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows: GTR Home > NAS > Service Information > Range Rover > Workshop Manual > Section 204-05: Vehicle Dynamic Suspension

NOTE:
Do not carry out step 11 in section 60.50.10 (removal of the rubber mountings and the electrical harness clip), as this is for access only.

1. Remove the air suspension compressor.

2. If the muffler is the push-in type (VIN 6A198057 - 6A212982), perform the following:

^ Depress retaining clip and withdraw adaptor.

^ Unscrew the exhaust muffler from the adaptor. (Figure 1)

^ Discard the removed exhaust muffler.

^ Apply Loctite L243 locking compound (STC50552) to the threads of the new exhaust muffler.

^ Install the muffler into the original adaptor body.

^ Tighten to 2.5 Nm (22.1 lbf.in).

^ Clean the component mating faces.

^ Push fit adaptor and muffler into compressor exhaust port.

2. If the muffler is the screw thread type (*VIN 6A212983 - 8A287013*), perform the following:

^ Apply Loctite L243 locking compound (STC50552) to the threads of the new exhaust muffler.

^ Install the muffler into compressor exhaust port, and tighten to 2.5 Nm (22.1 lbf.in).
