CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation:
To ensure 2011 model year LR4 and Range Rover Sport vehicles are equipped with the very latest software and parts to enhance the ownership experience, a limited number of vehicles within the affected VIN range require a number of software updates and parts.
The control modules requiring updating are:
^ Front entertainment control module - update to prevent the system from locking up
^ Audio front control module / CD will not load - update to enable CD play
^ Instrument pack - update to prevent menu items disappearing
^ Front door modules / Rear glass comfort stop - update to provide additional ventilation without excessive noise being generated
^ Drivers seat module! Seat soft stops - update to allow seat to utilize full extent of fore-aft seat adjustment
^ Cellular telephone module - update to improve Bluetooth� connectivity (LR4 vehicles: only if fitted with Navigation system)
The issues requiring new parts or repair are:
^ Rear mat retention (LR4 and Range Rover Sport) - to ensure the rear mats are retained correctly
^ Range Rover Sport with standard front brakes only: brake noise - to cure a potential noise coming from the brake
^ Wiper arm torque - to adjust the torque to prevent excessive movement
^ Owners Handbook Supplement - to update the handbook, including: front seat stall adjustment, rear window comfort stop, navigation on the go
^ Quick Start Guide / Information Hanger - to advise the customer of a number of features, including:
keyless entry/exit system, engine stop/start operation, and navigation system functionality

The updates may only be performed on eligible vehicles which were sold and delivered between 01 November 2010 and 28 February 2011. Unsold vehicles delivered after 28 February 2011 are not eligible.

Eligible vehicles sold and delivered between 01 November 2010 and 28 February 2011 should be updated at the next opportunity.*

NOTE:
The updates may only be performed on eligible vehicles which were sold and delivered between 01 November 2010 and 28 February 2011. Unsold vehicles and vehicles delivered after 28 February 2011 are not eligible.
NOTE:
Always check DDW to verify that the vehicle is affected by this Service Action prior to undertaking any repairs. Repair procedures are under constant review and therefore times and prices are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.
Warranty claims should be submitted quoting Program Code Q110, Option Code X, and the relevant SRO. The drive in / drive out SRO (02.02.02) may only be claimed if the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.
This Update Prior to Sale is valid for a limited time only and will expire on *30 April 2011*. All Warranty claims prior to this date must be submitted for payment within 30 days of completion of the repair.
Normal Warranty policies and procedures apply.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
UPDATE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE
CAUTION:
Ensure all ignition "ON" / ignition "OFF" requests are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the vehicle.
CAUTION:
A Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during IDS diagnosis / module programming.
NOTE:
Ensure the Navigation Update Tool is available.
Refer to the Navigation Update Tool User Guide (InfoTrail > Bulletins / Publications > Technical Library) for set up and usage details.
1. LR4 vehicles only: verify vehicle is fitted with Navigation system. (Figure 1)
^ If fitted with Navigation system, continue to step 2.
^ If not fitted with Navigation system, Bluetooth� phone module update cannot be performed.
2. Connect the Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle battery.
3. Turn ignition ON (engine not running).
NOTE:
IDS must be loaded with IDS-DVD123_V7.08 or later and Calibration File 56 or later.
4. Connect the IDS to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.
6. From the Session Type selection screen, choose 'Campaigns'.
7. Follow the on-screen prompts until the Recommendations tab is visible.
CAUTION:
Choose ONLY the control modules below from the SDD Campaigns list for updating. DO NOT select any module(s) not listed below which may be displayed as this will result in damage to the vehicle.
8. From the list of recommendations, select Run for the following modules only:
^ Configure existing module > Passengers door module
^ Configure existing module > Drivers door module
^ Configure existing module > Instrument cluster control module
^ Configure existing module > Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning control module
^ Configure existing module> Drivers seat control module
^ Configure existing module > Audio front control module
^ Entertainment system > Cellular telephone control module Service Update (LR4 vehicles: only if fitted with Navigation system)
9. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.
UPDATE THE FRONT ENTERTAINMENT CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE
NOTE:
Ensure the Navigation Update Tool is available.
1. From the Recommendations tab, select Run to configure the Front entertainment control module
Follow all on-screen instructions to complete set up of the Navigation Update Tool and configuration the Front entertainment control module.
NOTE:
Steps 2 - 18 are required as part of this module software update process.
2. Remove the lower trim panel. (Figure 1)
3. Release the two fir tree clips. (Figure 2)
4. Position the cable as shown. (Figure 3)
5. Connect the cable to the Navigation Update Tool. (Figure 4)
6. Turn ignition 'ON'.
7. Select and hold the center of the Home Menu position of the HLDF for 10 seconds. (Figure 5)
8. Select and hold the left-side of the Home Menu position of the HLDF until the Diag PIN Entry screen appears. (Figure 6)
9. From the Diag PIN Entry screen, select '7', '5', '3', and 'OK'. (Figure 7)
10. Select Nexf. (Figure 8)
11. Select 'Loading'. (Figure 9)
12. Select OK. (Figure 10)
13. Turn ignition OFF~fora minimum of two (2) minutes.
14. When all tasks are complete, exit the current session by selecting the Close Session option.
15. Disconnect the IDS and the Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply from the vehicle.
16. Remove the Navigation Update Tool.
17. Install the two fir tree clips. (Figure 2)
18. Install the lower trim panel. (Figure 1)
WIPER ARM TORQUE CHECK
1. Ensure wiper blades are in the correct position:
^ Range Rover Sport: (Figure 15).
^ LR4 (Figure 16)
2. Remove the left-hand (LH) wiper arm cover.
^ Tighten the nut to 18Nm (13 lbf ft).
3. Refit LH wiper arm cover.
4. Repeat steps 2 - 3 to the right-hand (RH) wiper arm.
INSTALL REAR FLOOR MATS AND RETAINING CLIPS
1. Remove the existing rear floor mats.
2. Properly position the new left-hand (LH) floor mat in the LH rear footwell.
3. Mark the center of the floor mat holes ('A' and 'B') onto the vehicle carpet. (Figure 17)
4. Remove the floor mat.
5. Use a suitable tool to spike a small hole in the vehicle carpet at points 'C' and 'D', 30mm rearwards of marks 'A' and 'B'. (Figure 18)
6. Insert the mat retention clips into points 'C' and 'D' in the vehicle carpet, rotating clockwise until they turn freely. (Figure 19)
7. Position the mat retention clips as shown. (Figure 20)
8. Secure the LH mat in the LH rear footwell on the retention clips.
9. Repeat steps 2-8 to the right-hand (RH) floor mat.
REPLACE BRAKE SPRING AND BOLT - RANGE ROVER SPORT WITH STANDARD BRAKES ONLY
1. Refer to Workshop Manual, section 206-03: Front Disc
Brake > Removal and Installation > Brake Pads - Vehicles
With: Standard Brakes (steps 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7), and remove the LH front brake pads.
^ Discard the existing caliper slider bolt.
2. Remove and discard the two clips on the LH caliper. (Figure 21)
CAUTION:
Do not use a wire brush to clean the top rubber coated clip.
3. From the Abutment Spring Kit (LR026219), install:
^ The new rubber coated clip to the top of the caliper.
^ The new metal clip to the bottom of the caliper.
4. Refer to Workshop Manual, section 206-03: Front Disc
Brake > Removal and Installation > Brake Pads - Vehicles
With: Standard Brakes (steps 7, 6, 3, 2, and 1), and install the LH front brake pads.
^ Install new caliper slider bolt (SMV500010).
5. Repeat steps 1 - 4 to the RH front brake.
PLACE OWNER'S HANDBOOK SUPPLEMENT AND INFORMATION HANGER IN VEHICLE
1. Place updated Owners Handbook Supplement (LSA 18 02 53 112 - LR4; LSA 18 02 54 112 - Range Rover Sport) in the vehicle.
NOTE:
The Information Hanger must remain in the vehicle until customer handover is complete.
2. Install the Information Hanger (LRL 18 56 53 111 - LR4; LRL 18 56 54 111 - Range Rover Sport) to the interior rearview mirror.
