Wheel Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection
DTC Of Speed Sensor Check Function:
SPEED SENSOR AND DECELERATION SENSOR DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
INSPECTION
1. Speed Sensor signal check.
(a) Confirm that center differential is free.
(b) Turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
(c) Using Special Service Tool (SST) # 09843 - 18020, connect terminals Ts and E1 of the Data Link Connector (DLC)1.
(d) Start the engine.
(e) Check the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light blinks.
NOTE: If the ABS Warning Light does not blink, inspect the ABS Warning Light circuit.
(f) Drive vehicle straight forward.
NOTE: Drive vehicle faster than 45 km/h (28 mph) for several seconds.
(g) Stop the vehicle.
(h) Using SST, connect the terminals Tc and E1 of DLC1.
SST 09843 - 18020
(i) Read the number of blinks of the ABS Warning Light.
NOTE: See the list of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
If every sensor is normal, a normal code is output (A cycle of 0.25 sec. ON and 0.25 sec. OFF is repeated).
If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the smallest numbered code will be displayed 1st.
(j) After doing the check, disconnect terminals Ts and E1, Tc and E1 of the DLC1, and Ignition Switch turned OFF.
2. Deceleration Sensor detection point check.
(a) Confirm that the center differential is free.
(b) Turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
(c) Using SST, connect the terminal Ts and E1 of the DLC1.
SST 09843 - 18020
(d) Start the engine.
(e) Check the ABS Warning Light blinks.
NOTE: If the ABS Warning Light does not blink, inspect the ABS Warning Light circuit.
(f) Jack up the rear side of the vehicle slowly.
NOTE: When measuring the height, measure at the center of the lower body of the vehicle.
(g) Check the warning light blinks.
If the warning light turns on, inspect the Deceleration Sensor installation. If the sensor installation is OK, replace the Deceleration Sensor.
(h) Jack down the vehicle slowly.
(i) Jack up the front side of the vehicle slowly.
NOTE: When measuring the height, measure at the center of the lower body of the vehicle.
(j) Check the warning light blinks.
If the warning light turns on, inspect the Deceleration Sensor installation. If the sensor installation is OK, replace the Deceleration Sensor.
(k) Jack down the vehicle slowly.
3. Deceleration Sensor operation check.
(a) Drive the vehicle straight ahead at about 20 km/h (12.4 mph) or more, lightly depress the Brake Pedal.
(b) Check there is no change in the warning light pattern.
(c) Drive the vehicle straight ahead at about 20 km/h (12.4 mph) or more, depress the Brake Pedal moderately.
(d) Check the warning light turns on while braking.
(e) Drive the vehicle straight ahead at about 20 km/h (12.4 mph) or more, depress the Brake Pedal strongly.
(f) Check the warning light pattern changes while braking, as shown.
If the operation is not as specified, inspect the Deceleration Sensor installation. If the sensor installation is OK, replace the Deceleration Sensor.
(g) Stop the vehicle and turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
(h) Remove SST from the terminals Ts and E1 of the DLC1.
