Introduction
This is to inform you of the seat heater replacement procedure. A change has been made to allow separate installation of the seat heater element.
Applicable Vehicles
All 1998 through 2000 LX 470 models.

Applicable Warranty *:
This repair is covered under the LEXUS Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Required Tools AND Material
^ Tacker
^ Tacks
^ Hog Ring Pliers
^ Adhesive Tape
NOTE:
Special Service Tools can be ordered through the LEXUS SST program by calling 1-800-933-8335.
How to use the Tacker:
As shown, drive in a tack pin with the tacker and fix the seat heater to the seat cover.
Repair Procedure
^ For the installation/removal of the seat and the disassembly/assembly of the seat cushion assembly, refer to the 2000 LX 470 Repair Manual (pages BO-118 through 124).
^ Care should be taken during the operation to protect the seat cover from scratches, dirt or accidental cuts.
1. Remove side of seat heater.
NOTE:
^ Do not heat the adhesive tape excessively.
^ Heating the adhesive tape insufficiently may result in damage to the pad.
A. Using a hair dryer, heat the adhesive tape, as shown in Figure 2.
B. Peel the adhesive tape and remove the side of the seat cushion heater.
C. Repeat steps A and B for the opposite side.
2. Remove seat cushion cover from pad.
A. Remove the 25 hog rings. (See Figure 3.)
B. Remove the seat cushion cover from pad.
C. Turn the seat cover inside out.
D. Disconnect the 6 seat wires.
3. Seat cushion cover:
Removing the seat heater.
A. Remove the tack pins that are fastened to the heater. (See Figure 4.)
B. Remove the seat heater from the seat cushion cover.
HINT:
Remove the wire before removing the seat heater.
4. Seatback cover:
Removing the seat heater.
A. Remove the 30 hog rings and wires. (Refer to Figure 5.)
B. Remove the seatback cover from the pad.
C. Disconnect the 7 seat wires.
D. Remove the tack pins that are fastened to the seat heater.
E. Remove the seat heater from the seatback cover.
5. Install new seat heater to seat cover.
A. Using a tacker, install a new seat heater to the seat cushion cover with tack pins.
B. Thread the wire through the listing pocket (refer to Figure 1) after setting the seat heater to the seat cushion cover.
NOTE:
^ Do not substitute other metal parts in place of tack pins.
^ Insufficient distance between the heater and cover may result in damage to the heater.
HINT:
^ Fasten the cover and heater with tack pins matching the seam with the V slit of the heater (Figure 9).
^ Sewing thread can be substituted for tack pins. However, allow a distance of 6-7 mm (0.24-0.28 in.) between both sewn parts of the heater and cover.
6. Install seat cushion cover to seat cushion pad.
A. Thread the 6 wires through the listing pocket (refer to Figure 1).
B. Install the seat cushion cover with 16 new hog rings.
C. Reverse turn the seat cover back into its original position.
7. Install sides of new seat heater.
A. Install the sides of the new seat heater to the seat cushion pads with adhesive tape (Figure 7).
NOTE:
Dimension A (adhesive tape) = 15 mm (0.59 in.) or more.
HINT:
Set the side of the new seat heater, align its outline with the scribed marks, as shown in Figure 8.
8. Install seatback cover to pad.
A. Thread the 7 wires through the listing pocket.
B. Reverse the seat cover back to its original position.
C. Install the seatback cover to pad with 30 new hog rings. (See Figure 9.)
9. Install seat cushion cover to pad.
A. Thread the 6 wires through the listing pocket.
B. Reverse the seat cover back to its original position.
C. Install the seat cushion cover to pad with 25 new hog rings. (Refer to Figure 10.)
