Introduction

To minimize operating noise from the Transfer Case during low speed moderate acceleration and high speed light acceleration, the High Speed Output Gear, Shift Lever Assembly and Center Differential Case have been modified.

^ 1998 - 2000 model year LX 470 vehicles.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 72 months or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

*Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

To repair affected vehicles refer to VIN in table above and install applicable parts following the service procedure described in the Repair Manual starting on page TR-4.

NOTE:
The Snap Ring is used to minimize axial play when installing a new High Speed Output Gear. Order all 11 Snap Rings to ensure the correct size is available when reassembling.

*The Thrust Washer is used to establish proper oil clearance for the differential side gears inside the center differential case. Order all 10 Thrust Washers to ensure the correct size is available when reassembling*.
