B2779 - Engine Starter Communication Malfunction
DESCRIPTION
This DTC is stored when the ID for the remote engine starter is not registered or the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) does not respond, even though the remote engine starter system (Toyota supplied part) has been operated to start the engine

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
If the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is replaced, register the key Engine Immobilizer System.
HINT
Before performing the inspection, check that DTC U1420 (CAN communication system) is not output How to Proceed With Troubleshooting.
PROCEDURE
1. RE-REGISTER REMOTE ENGINE STARTER SYSTEM
(a) Re-register the remote engine starter system Engine Immobilizer System.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK ENGINE START (REMOTE ENGINE START FUNCTION)
(a) Check that the engine starts using the remote engine start function.
OK:
Engine starts using remote engine start function.
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - JUNCTION CONNECTOR)
OK -- END (REMOTE ENGINE STARTER ID WAS NOT REGISTERED CORRECTLY)
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - JUNCTION CONNECTOR)
(a) Disconnect the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) connector.
(b) Disconnect the junction connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK REMOTE ENGINE STARTER WIRE HARNESS
(a) Disconnect the remote engine starter ECU assembly connector.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

OK -- Continue to next step.
5. REPLACE REMOTE ENGINE STARTER ECU ASSEMBLY
(a) Replace the remote engine starter ECU assembly Removal.

6. REGISTER REMOTE ENGINE STARTER SYSTEM
(a) Register the remote engine starter system Engine Immobilizer System.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK ENGINE START (REMOTE ENGINE START FUNCTION)
(a) Check that the engine starts using the remote engine start function.
OK:
Engine starts using remote engine start function.
NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU)
OK -- END (REMOTE ENGINE STARTER ECU ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE)
8. REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU)
(a) Replace the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) Removal.

9. CHECK ENGINE START (REMOTE ENGINE START FUNCTION)
(a) Check that the engine starts using the remote engine start function.

NG -- REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) Removal
