BRAKE CONTROL / DYNAMIC CONTROL SYSTEMS: VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM: C1337: Different Diameter Tire Malfunction
C1337 - Different Diameter Tire Malfunction
DESCRIPTION
The skid control ECU measures the speed of each wheel by receiving signals from the speed sensor.
These signals are used for recognizing that all 4 wheels are operating properly.
Therefore, all wheel signals must be equal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
When replacing the brake actuator assembly, perform zero point calibration and store system information Programming and Relearning.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK TIRES
(a) Check the size and condition of all 4 tires Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
HINT
The DTC is output when tire deformation or a difference in tire size is detected.
OK:
The diameter of all 4 tires and air pressure are the same.
Result:
C -- REPLACE TIRES SO THAT ALL FOUR TIRES ARE SAME SIZE
B -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE)
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK EACH SPEED SENSOR TIP
(a) Remove the front speed sensor or the rear speed sensor Removal for front, or Removal for rear).
(b) Check the speed sensor tip.
OK:
No scratches, oil, or foreign matter on the sensor tip.
NOTICE:
Check the speed sensor signal after cleaning or replacement Test Mode Procedure.
NG -- CLEAN OR REPLACE EACH SPEED SENSOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK EACH SPEED SENSOR ROTOR
(a) Remove the front speed sensor rotor or the rear speed sensor rotor Removal for front, or Removal for rear).
(b) Check the speed sensor rotor.
OK:
No scratches, oil, or foreign matter on the rotor.
Result:
NOTICE:
Check the speed sensor signal after cleaning or replacement Test Mode Procedure.
HINT
- If the front speed sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the front drive outboard joint shaft assembly.
- If the rear speed sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
B -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - EACH SPEED SENSOR)
A -- CLEAN OR REPLACE EACH SPEED SENSOR ROTOR
4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE)
(a) Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.
(b) Disconnect the skid control sensor wire.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
for RH
for LH
NOTICE:
Check the speed sensor signal after replacement Test Mode Procedure.

NG -- REPLACE SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - EACH SPEED SENSOR)
(a) Reconnect the skid control sensor wire (for 2WD).
(b) Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.
(c) Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
for RH
for LH
Text in Illustration
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (SENSOR INPUT)
(a) Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
for RH
for LH

NG -- REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. RECONFIRM DTC
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Reconnect the speed sensor connectors.
(c) Clear the DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(d) Start the engine.
(e) Drive the vehicle at a speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) or more for at least 60 seconds.
(f) Check if the same DTC is recorded Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Result:
C -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS How To Proceed With Troubleshooting
B -- REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR AND REAR SPEED SENSOR ROTOR
A -- Continue to next step.
8. REPLACE EACH SPEED SENSOR
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Replace the front speed sensor or the rear speed sensor Removal for front, or Removal for rear).
NOTICE:
Check the speed sensor signal after replacement Test Mode Procedure.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
9. RECONFIRM DTC
(a) Clear the DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(b) Start the engine.
(c) Drive the vehicle at a speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) or more for at least 60 seconds.
(d) Check if the same DTC is recorded Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Result:
B -- END
A -- Continue to next step.
10. REPLACE EACH SPEED SENSOR ROTOR
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Remove the front drive shaft assembly Removal.
