SUSPENSION CONTROL: SUSPENSION CONTROL SYSTEM: PRECAUTION

1. PRECAUTION

NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

2. WHEN USING A JACK OR LIFT

NOTICE:
* Before raising the vehicle using a jack or lift, make sure to disable vehicle height control by pressing the height control OFF switch and confirming that the height control OFF indication is displayed on the meter.
* When lowering the vehicle using a jack or lift, lower the vehicle slowly, and after the vehicle is fully lowered, press the height control OFF switch to enable vehicle height control.
(a) Follow the procedure below when raising the vehicle with a jack or lift.

(1) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(2) Press the height control OFF switch and check that the height control "OFF" comes on.





(3) Turn the engine switch off.

(4) Raise the vehicle.

(b) Follow the procedure below when lowering the vehicle.

(1) Lower the vehicle slowly to the ground.

(2) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(3) Press the height control OFF switch and make sure that the OFF indicator goes out and that the height control operates normally.

3. WHEN REMOVING THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR FRONT AXLE

NOTICE:
* Do not turn the lower part of the pneumatic cylinder assembly without air in it, otherwise the diaphragm might be twisted or damaged.
* To avoid damage, follow the procedure below when using a compressor to fill the cylinders with air.
4. WHEN REMOVING HEIGHT CONTROL VALVE

NOTICE:
* Check the safety of your surroundings and use caution when disconnecting each height control valve air tube as the air in each pneumatic cylinder will be discharged and the vehicle body will lower.
* When lowering the vehicle with the air discharged after replacing the No. 1 height control valve or No. 2 height control valve, ensure that the air tubes are connected and that all air passages are closed.
5. WHEN ADDING AIR

NOTICE:
* Only operate the height control compressor to add air for less than 1 minute. In order to protect the height control compressor, if it is operated for 1 minute continuously, its operation is prohibited for 1 minute.
* Only add air when the ambient temperature is below 35°C (95°F).
6. WHEN DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING A HEIGHT CONTROL TUBE (Type 1)

NOTICE:
* Disconnecting and connecting the height control tube should be performed by hand to prevent dust or foreign matter from entering.
* Be careful not to damage the height control tube.
(a) Disconnect the height control tube.

(1) Loosen the lock nut.

NOTICE:
Stabilize the chamber of the pneumatic cylinder assembly by hand to avoid movement.

(2) Disconnect the tube from the pneumatic cylinder.

(3) Remove the 2 O-rings.

(b) Install the height control tube.

(1) Coat 2 new O-rings with MP grease No. 2.

(2) Install the new O-rings to the height control tube.

NOTICE:
Air leaks may occur if dust or foreign matter comes into contact with the O-rings.

(3) Hold the pneumatic cylinder assembly.





(4) Insert the tube into the pneumatic cylinder assembly and connect the tube with the lock nut.





Torque : 17 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
Stabilize the chamber of the pneumatic cylinder assembly by hand to avoid movement.

7. WHEN DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING A HEIGHT CONTROL TUBE (Type 2)

NOTICE:
* Disconnecting and connecting the height control tube should be performed by hand to prevent dust or foreign matter from entering.
* Be careful not to damage the height control tube.
(a) Disconnect the height control tube.

(1) Pinch "A" to disconnect the No. 1 connector and pull it out from the housing.

(2) Set SST to the tube.

(3) Insert SST into the housing to expand the claw of the plug or tube connector in the housing.

(4) Pull out the tube with SST inserted.

NOTICE:
Do not apply excessive force to the tube.

(5) Insert a screwdriver into the circular hole on the housing, and remove the No. 2 connector, 2 O-rings and plate from the housing.

HINT
The O-rings, plate and No. 2 connector are non-reusable parts.

(b) Install 2 new O-rings and a new plate.

NOTICE:
When replacing the parts onto which the tube is to be installed with new ones, it is not necessary to perform this installation procedure.

(1) Apply MP grease No. 2 to 2 new O-rings and a new plate, and then install them to a straight tube.

NOTICE:
* Install the plate between the O-rings.
* Air leaks may occur if dust or foreign matter comes into contact with the O-rings.
(2) Insert the tube onto which the 2 O-rings and plate are installed into the housing, and then lightly push them in with a piece of rolled up cardboard or equivalent.

(3) Push the No. 2 connector into the housing until a clicking sound is heard.

(c) Install the height control tube.

(1) Push the tube and No. 1 connector to the housing until a clicking sound is heard.

NOTICE:
* Turn the claw of the connector 90° so that the claw is aligned with the housing port as shown in the illustration.
* Lightly pull the tube to make sure that it is securely connected.
8. WHEN DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING A HEIGHT CONTROL TUBE (Type 3)

NOTICE:
* Disconnecting and connecting the height control tube should be performed by hand to prevent dust or foreign matter from entering it.
* Be careful not to damage the height control tube.
(a) Disconnect the height control tube.

(1) Remove the holder.

(2) Spread the clip and slowly pull the height control tube straight out.





NOTICE:
Do not completely remove the clip except when replacing it.

(3) Remove the 2 O-rings.

HINT
Some tubes are equipped with only one O-ring.

(b) Install the height control tube.





(1) If replacing the clip:

Hook one side of a new clip around the union groove, and slide the other side into the opposite side of the union groove.

(2) If not replacing the clip:

Coat 2 new O-rings with MP grease No. 2.

Install the new O-rings to the height control tube.

NOTICE:
Air leaks may occur if dust or foreign matter comes into contact with the O-ring.

HINT
Some tubes are equipped with only one O-ring.

(3) Securely connect the height control tube straight into the connector until a clicking sound is heard.

NOTICE:
Connect the height control tube straight to the connector in order to prevent air leaks.

(4) Install the height control tube to the holder being careful not to apply excessive force to the clip.

9. WHEN INSPECTING FOR AIR LEAKS

NOTICE:
Whenever a height control tube is disconnected and reconnected, be sure to check for any air leaks.

(a) Set the height control switch in the "HEIGHT HIGH" position and raise the vehicle height.

(b) Stop the engine.

(c) Apply soapy water to the connections of the tubes and check if there are any air leaks.
