HYBRID / BATTERY CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P0C73-776: Motor Electronics Coolant Pump "A" Control Performance
P0C73-776 - Motor Electronics Coolant Pump "A" Control Performance

DESCRIPTION

The water pump with motor assembly transmits rotation speed information to the power management control ECU (HV CPU). The power management control ECU (HV CPU) monitors the speed and detects malfunctions.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The power management control ECU (HV CPU) monitors speed of the water pump with motor assembly. If there is an abnormality in speed, the power management control ECU (HV CPU) will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.

MONITOR STRATEGY

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS

TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLDS

COMPONENT OPERATING RANGE

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

- Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.

- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

- Turn the power switch off.

- Turn the power switch on (IG) and check that there are no abnormalities (abnormal sounds, coolant leaks, DTC output, etc).

- Turn the power switch on (READY) and turn the Techstream on. [A]

- Wait for 2 minutes or more.

- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes. [B]

- Check that permanent DTCs are cleared.

- If the permanent DTCs are not cleared, perform a universal trip, and then check for permanent DTCs again.

HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
If DTC P0A78-284, 286, P0A79-692, 696, P0A7A-322, 324, P0A94-553 or 557 is output, replace the inverter with converter assembly after this inspection.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK QUANTITY OF HV COOLANT P0A01

C -- INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAKS

B -- ADD HV COOLANT
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK COOLANT HOSE P0A01

NG -- CORRECT THE PROBLEM
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY

NOTICE:
Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

HINT
When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the water pump with motor assembly may not operate.

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List.

(d) Select Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.

(e) Read the Data List.

OK:

Inverter W/P Revolution is 625 rpm or less.

(f) Turn the power switch off.

NG -- CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP)

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Activate the Water Pump.

(d) Select Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.

(e) While performing the "Activate the Water Pump" Active Test, check Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.

Result:

HINT
Perform the Active Test with the inverter coolant temperature between 5 to 149°F (-15 and 65°C).

(f) Turn the power switch off.

NG -- CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK HV COOLANT (CHECK FOR CONDITIONS THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED FREEZING) P0A01

B -- REPLACE HV COOLANT

A -- REPLACE WATER PUMP WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Components

6. ADD HV COOLANT

(a) Add coolant up to the high level in the reserve tank.
