AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR AXLE HUB: INSTALLATION

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
1. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)

(a) Install the rear axle hub and bearing assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 4 bolts.





Torque : 125 Nm (1275 kgf-cm, 92 ft-lbf)

2. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for AWD)

(a) Align the matchmarks on the rear drive shaft assembly and rear axle hub and bearing assembly, and then insert the rear drive shaft assembly to the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

(b) Install the rear axle hub and bearing assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 4 bolts.





Torque : 125 Nm (1275 kgf-cm, 92 ft-lbf)

3. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for AWD)

(a) Clean the threaded parts on the rear drive shaft assembly and a new rear axle shaft nut using a non-residue solvent.

NOTICE:
* Be sure to perform this work for a new rear drive shaft assembly.
* Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign matter.
(b) Temporarily install the rear disc with the 5 hub nuts.





(c) While applying the parking brakes, temporarily install the new rear axle shaft nut.

Torque : 294 Nm (2998 kgf-cm, 217 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
Stake the rear axle shaft nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.

(d) Remove the 5 hub nuts and the rear disc.

4. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS Rear Axle Hub

6. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD) Installation

7. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR (for AWD)

(a) Install the rear speed sensor to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the bolt.





Torque : 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf)

NOTICE:
* Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the sensor tip.
* Do not file the rear speed sensor installation hole or surface because the gap between the magnet rotor and rear speed sensor is important.
* Do not twist or apply excessive force to the front speed sensor during installation to prevent it from being damaged.
* Install the rear speed sensor without twisting it.
8. INSTALL REAR DISC Installation

9. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG Replacement

10. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Reassembly

11. STAKE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for AWD)

(a) Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the rear axle shaft nut.





12. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION ARM COVER (w/o Air Suspension) Installation

13. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION ARM COVER (w/ Air Suspension) Installation

14. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE AND PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL Adjustments

15. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

Torque : 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)

16. CHECK FOR SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL

(a) Check for the speed sensor signal Test Mode Procedure.
