2GR-FXE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: P106A: Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor - Manifold Absolute Pressure Correlation
P106A - Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor - Manifold Absolute Pressure Correlation

DESCRIPTION

HINT
*: Data List names

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

This DTC is designed to detect a deviation in the output characteristics of a pressure sensor.

The pressure of the canister pressure sensor and manifold absolute pressure sensor is monitored 55 minutes after the power switch is turned off. If there is a difference in the pressure, the MIL is illuminated (2 trip detection logic).

HINT
Correct judgment may not be possible when the altitude is 13124 ft (4000 m) or more.

MONITOR STRATEGY

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS

TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLDS

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

- Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [A].

- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) DTC Check / Clear.

- Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.

- Start the engine and idle it for 10 seconds [B].

- Turn the power switch off.

- Allow the engine to cool down for 55 minutes [C].

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

- Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [D].

- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes / Pending.

- Read Pending DTCs.

- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

HINT
If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.

- Input the DTC: P106A.

- Check the DTC judgment result.

HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, perform steps [A] through [D].
INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO P106A)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

(e) Read the DTC.

Result:

B -- GO TO DTC CHART SFI System
A -- Continue to next step.

2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VAPOR PRESSURE PUMP)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Vapor Pressure Pump.

(e) Read the value.

HINT
- Refer to the Vapor Pressure Pump value of other vehicles in the workshop and check the difference in pressure.
- If other vehicles are not available, compare the Vapor Pressure Pump value with the current atmospheric pressure*.
- *: Standard atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg) at sea level. The atmospheric pressure decreases by approximately 1 kPa (7.5 mmHg) for every 100 m of elevation increase. Atmospheric pressure is also affected by weather conditions. The Atmosphere pressure listed in the Data List cannot be used as a reference for this check.

Standard:

+/- 3.5 kPa (+/- 26.25 mmHg) or less.

NG -- REPLACE CANISTER
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MAP)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / MAP and Vapor Pressure Pump.

(e) Read the value.

Standard:

+/- 3.5 kPa (+/- 26.25 mmHg) or less.

NG -- REPLACE MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR

OK -- CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

4. REPLACE CANISTER

(a) Replace canister Removal.

NEXT -- CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

5. REPLACE MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR

(a) Replace manifold absolute pressure sensor Removal.

NEXT -- CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

6. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG) and the Techstream on.

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

(d) Data List / MAP and Vapor Pressure Pump

(e) Check that the difference between the MAP and Vapor Pressure Pump values in the Data List is +/- 3.5 kPa (+/- 26.25 mmHg) or less.

NEXT -- END
