Road Test
CRUISE CONTROL: DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM: ROAD TEST
HINT
The dynamic radar cruise control system has 2 cruise control modes: constant speed control mode and vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode.
* The vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode is always selected when starting up the dynamic radar cruise control system.
* Operation of the constant speed control mode is the same as the conventional cruise control system.
1. INSPECT SET SWITCH
(a) Turn the cruise control switch on.
(b) Check that the cruise control indicator light in the combination meter assembly illuminates.
(c) Drive the vehicle at a desired speed (between 50 km/h and 170 km/h [30 mph and 105 mph]).
(d) Push the cruise control switch to -SET.
(e) Check that the cruise control SET indicator light in the combination meter assembly illuminates.
(f) After releasing the switch, check that the vehicle cruises at the desired speed.
2. INSPECT "+" SWITCH
(a) Turn the cruise control switch on.
(b) Drive the vehicle at a desired speed (between 50 km/h and 170 km/h [30 mph and 105 mph]).
(c) Push the cruise control switch to -SET.
(d) Check that vehicle speed increases while the cruise control switch is pushed to +RES, and that the vehicle cruises at the set speed when released.
(e) Constant speed control mode:
Momentarily push the cruise control switch upward to +RES and immediately release it. Check that the vehicle speed increases by approximately 1.6 km/h (1 mph) (tap-up function).
(f) Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode:
Momentarily push the cruise control switch upward to +RES and immediately release it. Check that the vehicle speed increases by approximately 1 km/h or 1 mph (tap-up function).
3. INSPECT "-" SWITCH
(a) Turn the cruise control switch on.
(b) Drive the vehicle at a desired speed (between 50 km/h and 170 km/h [30 mph and 105 mph]).
(c) Push the cruise control switch to -SET.
(d) Check that vehicle speed decreases while the cruise control switch is pressed down to -SET and that the vehicle cruises at the set speed when the cruise control switch is released.
(e) Constant speed control mode:
Momentarily push the cruise control switch downward to -SET and immediately release it. Check that the vehicle speed decreases by approximately 1.6 km/h (1 mph) (tap-down function).
(f) Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode:
Momentarily push the cruise control switch downward to -SET and immediately release it. Check that the vehicle speed decreases by approximately 1 km/h or 1 mph (tap-down function).
4. INSPECT CANCEL FUNCTION (CANCEL SWITCH)
(a) Turn the cruise control switch on.
(b) Drive the vehicle at a desired speed (between 50 km/h and 170 km/h [30 mph and 105 mph]).
(c) Push the cruise control switch to -SET.
(d) When performing one of the following, check that the cruise control system is canceled and that the normal driving mode is set:
* Depressing the brake pedal
* Driving the vehicle while the vehicle stability control system is operating
* Moving the shift lever from D to N, or selecting 3rd, 2nd or 1st range with the shift lever in S
* When the ECM detects a cruise control cancel signal from the four wheel drive control ECU
* Pulling the cruise control switch to CANCEL
* Pushing the cruise control switch off
5. INSPECT RES (RESUME) SWITCH
(a) Turn the cruise control switch on.
(b) Drive the vehicle at a desired speed (between 50 km/h and 170 km/h [30 mph and 105 mph]).
(c) Push the cruise control switch to -SET.
(d) Cancel the cruise control system by performing one of the following:
* Depressing the brake pedal
(e) After the cruise control switch is pressed to +RES at a driving speed of more than 40 km/h (25 mph), check that the vehicle restores the speed set before cancellation.
