A/T - Torque Converter Mounting Bolts
90lexus02 TRANSMISSION & CLUTCH 002 09-29-89 ALLTitle TORQUE CONVERTER MOUNTING BOLTS
When reinstalling the transmission assembly after repair or replacement, it is critical that the correct torque converter mounting bolts are used (refer to the applicable Parts Catalog or the attached part number information for application and part numbers).
The use of a torque converter set bolt longer than specified will deform the front cover of the torque convertor. This deformation can internally damage the torque converter lock-up clutch disc. Material from the lock-up clutch may contaminate the transmission and valve body requiring additional repairs. This damage will not be immediately detected by the technician.
When the torque convertor is moved in the direction of the flex plate by installing and pulling the temporary bolts, these bolts must be hand tightened.
Note: One of the torque converter mounting bolts is a different color than the other five. This one must be installed first and hand tightened only. This is necessary to center the flex plate onto the torque converter. when installing the other five mounting bolts:
^ hand tighten the bolts first.
^ progressively torque the bolts in a three step process and in a cross pattern (see illustration below) to factory specification.
Torque to the specifications listed in the chart on page 2.
