Door Mirror - Revised Installation Procedures

CONDITION: Appearance quality and wind noise performance may be improved by following the attached revised installation procedures as described below:
PRODUCTION EFFECTIVE:
Production change is scheduled for the first of November, 1989
DOOR MIRROR PACKAGE
REVISED INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
Note: To improve assembly quality appearance and reduce the possibility of wind noise, the door mirrors must be secured tightly against the window frame.
Required Tools:
Hold the bolt on the end of the Screwdriver or Nut Driver. To avoid damage to the bolt threads, be sure to install the bolts straight into the nut so that the bolt is not cross threaded.
Installation Procedure:
A) Install a noise control sponge into the opening as shown on the left. Be sure to cover the hole completely with the sponge (in hardware package).

B) Attach mirror wire connector to door wire harness.
C) Temporarily install mirror body to mirror bracket.
D) Install door mirror, line-up the bolt holes between the mirror and the mirror bracket and then push the mirror into the bracket.
E) Install three (3) mirror bolts. Note: The surface of the mirror bracket and the mirror stay must make full contact. Also, the bolt holes should be lined up as shown in the figure on the left (damage to the bolt threads is possible if the above procedure is not followed).
F) Tighten all three (3) bolts in the following sequence:
Tighten bolt # 1 until it is seated Tighten bolt # 2 until it is seated Tighten bolt # 3 until it is seated Re-tighten all three bolts in the order of 1, 2, 3 until they are tight.
Note: All bolts should be seated uniformly against the mirror stay to prevent air leaks into the vehicle.
G) Install the noise control plate. Note: The noise control plate should completely cover all three holes in the mirror base.
H) Install the inner mirror cover.
I) Inspect the mirror operation and road test the vehicle to check for any abnormal wind noise.
