Title: LEXUS PARTS RECOVERY
Effective March 31, 1990, Lexus will no longer be requiring 100% return of warranty parts except for automatic transmission assemblies. Instead, the recovery of warranty parts will be carried out under the formal Dealer Parts Return Program which is explained in Section 14 of the Lexus warranty Policy and Procedures Manual.
As a reminder for parts and service personnel, we would like to highlight certain features of the dealer warranty parts return program. When Lexus-Japan or one of the technical departments of Lexus-USA requests the recovery of specific defective parts, the Warranty Department will mail to your dealership the following documentation:
^ Dealer Parts Return Summary (Form No. 2444) This computer-generated summary will serve as the shipping and processing document for the recovery request and must be included in the container which is shipped to the Lexus Parts Inspection Center (PIC).
If the shipment consists of more than one carton or container a photocopy of the summary must be placed in each carton. Also, the individual pieces should be marked 1 of 3, 2 of 3, etc.
^ Warranty Parts Tag (Form No. 2443) This computer-generated salmon colored tag must be attached to the part or to the carton containing the part(s). Do not separate the tag halves since both halves are needed during the parts inspection process.
In addition to the above explained procedures we would like to draw your attention to the following material which must be used for the identification and shipping of warranty parts:
^ Warranty Parts Tag (Dealer Support Material no. 00240-30003) The parts specialist or the technician should always attach the yellow warranty Parts Tag to warranty parts that have been remove from a vehicle. The information provided with this parts tag will enable parts department personnel to place the part(s) in the appropriate bin and quickly retrieve the part(s) for shipment to the PIC.
^ Parts Return Shipping Label (Dealer Support Material no. 00240-30019) When preparing a parts recovery request for shipment to the PIC, make sure the yellow Parts Return Shipping Label is used.
Remember, warranty parts shipments must be received at the Lexus Parts Inspection Center within 30 days from the request date that is printed on the Dealer Parts Return Summary. Please make sure the parts are shipped to the Lexus PIC as "FREIGHT PREPAID". Our PIC will not accept "collect" shipments!
For your reference, we have attached a sample of each of the forms, tags and labels mentioned in this communication.
Please make sure this communication and its attachments are made available to both the Parts Manager and Parts Specialist who are involved in the handling and shipping of warranty parts.
NOTE:
All parts replaced on vehicles prior to March 31, 1990 must be returned to the Lexus Parts Inspection Center.
All automatic transmission assemblies must be returned to the Lexus Parts Inspection Center until further notice.
