Installation


1. Install side gear shaft.
2. Check installation of side gear shaft, as follows:
a. Ensure side gear shaft will not come out by trying to pull it out completely by hand.
b. Push side gear shaft to the differential and measure distance between side gear shaft and transaxle case. Ensure distance between the two is the same as the measurement taken before removing the side gear shaft.
3. Using grease supplied in the boot kit, pack in grease to the side gear shaft. Pack .09 lb. of grease.
4. Install driveshaft, as follows:
a. On the lefthand driveshaft, place new gaskets on the inboard joint. Align marks on the side gear shaft and inboard joint. Insert and finger tighten attaching bolts and washers.
b. On the righthand driveshaft, pack in .09 lbs. of grease, supplied in the boot kit, to the center driveshaft. Place a new gasket on the inboard joint. Install center driveshaft to the righthand driveshaft. Install washers and attaching bolts and temporarily tighten them. Install driveshaft with center driveshaft to the transaxle through the bearing bracket. Install snap ring. Install and tighten the bearing lock bolt. Torque bolt to 24 ft. lbs.
5. On all models, install driveshaft to the axle hub. Install outboard joint side of the driveshaft to the axle hub.
6. Install tie rod to the steering knuckle. Torque to specifications.
7. Install steering knuckle to the lower arm. Torque to specifications.
8. While depressing brake pedal, torque driveshaft attaching bolts to 48 ft. lbs.
9. Install bearing locknut, locknut cap and a new cotter pin. Torque bearing locknut while depressing brake pedal, to specifications.
