Fig. 1 Exploded View Of Rear Axle Hub & Carrier:

Removal
1. Refer to Fig. 1 when replacing rear axle hub bearing.
2. Remove axle hub as previously described under AXLE CARRIER.

3. Place axle hub assembly in a vise, Fig. 27.
4. Using a hammer and chisel, unstake and remove locknut.

5. Using puller tool SST 09950-20017 or equivalent, separate rear axle shaft from rear axle hub, Fig. 28.
6. Remove bearing inner race (inside).

7. Remove bearing inner race (outside) using tool No. SST 09950-20017 or equivalent to pull race from axle shaft, Fig. 29.
8. Remove oil seal, then the bearing as follows:
a. Install inner race (outside) of bearing to be removed.

b. Using a press and replacer handle tool No. SST 09552-10010 and seal replacer tool No. SST 09558-10010 or equivalents, press out bearing, Fig. 30.

Installation
Always replace bearing as an assembly.
1. Apply multi-purpose grease around outer race of new bearing.

2. Using a press and replacer handle tool No. SST 09552-10010 and seal replacer tool No. SST 09558-10010 or equivalents, press bearing into hub, Fig. 31.
3. Install a new bearing inner race (outside).

4. Using a press and replacer handle tool No. SST 09552-10010 and seal replacer tool No. SST 09554-10010 or equivalents, drive new oil seal into axle hub applying multi-purpose grease to seal lip, Fig. 32.
5. Install new bearing inner race (inside).

6. Using press and dust cover replacer tool No. SST 09636-20010 or equivalent, press inner races onto axle shaft, Fig. 33.
7. Install and torque new locknut, then stake the nut using a hammer and chisel.
8. Install axle hub as previously described under AXLE CARRIER.
