Title: BODY SIDE PROTECTION MOLDINGS
Body Side Protection Moldings (cladding) may not be properly retained to outer door panels or sheet metal on some ES250's. In these instances, the attachment clips were not fully installed during production. The following procedure should be used to correct this condition:
EXAMINATION OF CLADDING FIT:
1) Examine cladding to door skin fit to determine if cladding has warped, bowed or if clips are loose.
^ Locate any damaged (loose) clips requiring replacement.
^ If leading edge of cladding has pulled away from the door skin in excess of 2 mm, cladding or clip replacement may be necessary (see figure 1).
^ If a mid-section of the cladding has bowed outward from the contour of the door skin, in excess of 2 mm, cladding or clip replacement may be necessary (see figure 2).
2) If inspection reveals a gap at the front edge or the mid-section, remove cladding and inspect for visible warpage or bowing. Replace any cladding that is visibly deformed.
3) Inspect clips for wear and damage. Replace all worn and damaged clips (identified as damaged in step 1)
ALIGNMENT OF SHEET METAL AT FENDER/DOOR :
Inspect the clearance gap between the leading edge of front door and the trailing edge of the fenders. Clearance standard specification (see figure 3) is 4.6 mm (0.181 in.). If adjustment is necessary, refer to Body Collision Damage Repair Manual (BRM018U) for additional information.
RE-INSTALL CLADDING:
Re-install cladding according to '91 Lexus ES250 Repair Manual, section BO-42 to BO-45. With cladding firmly in place, verify that fit to door skin is free of warpage, bowing and that all clips have been fully inserted.
