Title CELLULAR PHONE ANTENNA WIND NOISE
To reduce wind noise created by the Cellular Telephone Antenna, a newly designed antenna is now available.
PART NUMBER INFORMATION:
Previous Antenna New Antenna
Part Number 86760-50010 86760-50020
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. REMOVE INNER COUPLING BOX
NOTE: Cover the rear seat, and rear package tray to protect them from debris.
- Disconnect antenna cable from the Inner Coupling Box and remove the thermal shrink tube.
- Using a scraper, carefully remove the Inner Coupling Box from the rear window glass.
NOTE: Take care not to damage the rear window glass, defogger grid or glass printed antenna.
2. REMOVE OUTER COUPLING BOX
- Using a scraper, carefully remove Outer Coupling Box.
NOTE: Take care not to damage the rear window glass.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
1. CLEAN SURFACE FOR ANTENNA INSTALLATION
Wipe both the inside and outside surfaces of the rear window glass where the antenna will be installed. Wipe from the center outward as shown. Make sure no oily residue is left on the surfaces.
NOTE: An ammonia based glass cleaner can be used for this procedure.
2. INSTALLATION LOCATION
- The cellular antenna base should not be touching/ covering any portion of the defogger grid or the glass printed antenna.
NOTE: The required position is 10 mm left of the centerline to avoid interference with the printed antenna.
3. OUTER COUPLFNG BOX INSTALLATION
- If the temperature is low (below 15~C, 59~F) when installing the antenna, heat the rear window glass using a hair blow dryer.
- Carefully apply a thin coat of sealant (provided with the new antenna) in the channel (3 mm, 0.1 in.) around the circumference of the Outer Coupling Box. Remove the red film from the double sided tape on the back of the coupling box.
NOTE: Make sure the sealant does not come in contact with the surface of the double sided tape because when this occurs, the adhesiveness of the tape is significantly reduced.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE (Continued):
- With the square end of the coupling box pointing upward, position the Outer Coupling Box on the glass and press firmly to ensure the entire surface of the double sided tape and sealant comes in contact with the glass. Remove excess sealant using a spatula.
- Check the circumference of the coupling box to ensure that the sealer has completely filled the gap between it and the glass. If the sealant did not completely seal, reapply the sealant to fill the gap. Wipe off excess sealant with a rag.
NOTE: Do not apply excessive force to the coupling box for 24 hours after installation.
4. ANTENNA POLE INSTALLATION
- Install antenna pole to the Outer Coupling Box.
- Adjust the pole to the upright vertical position.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE (Continued):
5. INNER COUPLING BOX INSTALLATION
- Insert the thermal shrink tube on the Antenna Cable and then securely connect the cable to the Inner Coupling Box.
- Heat the shrink tube with a hair blow dryer to secure the connection.
- Conceal the excess Antenna Cable and connector under the headliner. Take care not to pull down the headliner too far.
Remove the red film from the double sided tape on the back or the Inner Coupling Box and position it on the glass and press firmly to ensure the entire surface of the double sided tape comes in contact with the glass.
NOTE: The square end of the Inner Coupling Box should point upward to align with the Outer Coupling Box as shown above.
