Removal and Installation

When performing the following procedure, refer to Fig. 41 for assistance.
1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Ensure wheels are turned straight. Then using a Torx 30, loosen wheel pad retaining screws.
3. Pull wheel pad from steering wheel and disconnect connector. Store wheel pad facing upward.
4. Disconnect connector, remove set nut and place alignment marks on wheel and shaft.
5. Using steering wheel puller 09213-31021, or equivalent, remove steering wheel.
6. Refer to Vehicle Lighting/Headlamp/Headlamp Switch/Service and Repair or Vehicle Lighting/Turn Signals/Turn Signal Switch/Service and Repair to remove spiral cable.

7. Turn spiral cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes tight. Then rotate 2.5 turns clockwise. Line up red marks, Fig. 42.
8. Match alignment marks and install steering wheel. Torque set nut to 26 ft. lbs. Connect connector.
9. Connect airbag connector and install wheel pad. Torque wheel pad screws to 65 in.lbs.
10. Check steering wheel center point and rearm airbag as previously described.
