Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Fuel Pump Removal:

DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF BATTERY

CAUTION (W / Air bag): Work must be started after approx. 30 seconds or longer from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.

REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION

Service Cover Removal:

REMOVE FLOOR SERVICE HOLE COVER

(a) Disconnect the fuel pump connector.

(b) Remove the five screws and service hole cover.

REMOVE FUEL PUMP LEAD WIRE

Fuel Lines:

DISCONNECT FUEL PIPE AND HOSE FROM FUEL PUMP BRACKET

CAUTION: Remove the fuel filter cap to prevent the fuel from flowing out.

(a) Disconnect the outlet pipe from the pump bracket.

(b) Disconnect the return hose from the pump bracket.

Pump Bracket Assembly:

REMOVE FUEL PUMP BRACKET ASSEMBLY FROM FUEL TANK

(a) Remove the eight bolts.

Pump Bracket Assembly:

(b) Pull out the pump bracket assembly.

(c) Remove the gasket from the pump bracket.

Pump Bracket Disassembly:

REMOVE FUEL PUMP FROM FUEL PUMP BRACKET

(a) Remove the fuel pump lead wire.

(b) Pull off the lower side of the fuel pump from the pump bracket.

(c) Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel pump, and remove the fuel pump.

(d) Remove the rubber cushion from the fuel pump.

Filter Removal:

REMOVE FUEL PUMP FILTER FROM FUEL PUMP

(a) Using a small screwdriver, remove the clip.

(b) Pull out the pump filter.
