REAR SUSPENSION SQUEAK/GROAN NOISES
This LSIB supersedes No. SU92-002, released 11/25/92.
Several production changes have been made to reduce squeak/groan noises from the rear suspension/body area on ES 300's.
PRODUCTION CHANGES:
"V" Brace:
1. The tightening procedure for the room partition panel "V" brace set nuts was improved to ensure accuracy and consistency. Torque = 9.8 N.m (100 kgf cm, 87 in-lb)

DIAGNOSIS TIP
If these nuts become loose, this "V" brace makes a creaking noise when turning or going over bumps at slow speeds.
Self-lubricating Bushing:
2. The rear stabilizer bushing rubber was changed to a self-lubricating type.

Rear Shock Spring:
3. The changes illustrated were made to the rear spring bumper.
DIAGNOSIS TIP
The groan noise which may be experienced with the original style spring bumper is most noticeable with rear seat passengers or heavy loads.

REAR SUSPENSION SQUEAK/GROAN NOISES
Additional squeak/groan noises have also been found to originate from the rear suspension upper insulator and/or the rear strut rod bushing. The areas shown below should be lubricated with a silicon or lithium based grease on any ES 300's with complaints of rear suspension squeak/groan noises. Proper lubrication methods require disassembly of the components to ensure adequate coating and penetration.
