Title: STRUT BAR CUSHION NOISE

The front strut bar cushion has been changed in production to reduce the likelihood of a squawk/groan noise from the front suspension just before stopping. This cushion is now available separately. Use the following procedure to replace the strut bar cushion:

(1) Remove front wheel.

(2) Remove lower shock absorber mounting bolt.

(3) Remove lower shock absorber bracket by removing bolts A and B. (See Fig. 1)

Note:
Support the steering knuckle securely.

(4) Remove engine under cover.

(5) Remove front strut bar. (See Fig. 2)

Note:
Placing match marks on the caster adjustment cam and bracket prior to strut bar removal should eliminate the need for wheel alignment.

(6) Using SST 09316-00010* (Replacer Pipe) or a suitable substitute, SST 09710-05080** (Rear Base) and a press, support strut bar and remove old cushion. (See Fig. 3)

* Part of kit 09316-60010-02, Transmission Transfer Bearing Replacer Set.
** Part of kit 09710-26010-02, Front Suspension Bushing Tool Set (Essential Tool).

(7) Press new cushion into strut bar using SST's.

Note:
The index tabs of the new cushion should be at right angles to the center of strut bar (+/- 5 degrees) and facing downward when viewed from outside the vehicle. (See Fig. 4)
