Brake Pedal Height

1. Measure brake pedal height, Fig. 2.

2. If pedal height is not 5.81-6.2 inches on ES300, 5.3-5.7 inches on 1993 GS300, 5.35-5.75 inches on 1994-96 GS300, 5.92-6.31 inches on SC300 and SC400 or 5.62-6.02 inches on 1993-94 LS400, or 5.26-5.66 inches on 1995-96 LS400 models, adjust pedal height as follows:
a. Remove the undercover and lower dash finish panel as outlined under Instrument Panel, Service and Repair.
b. Disconnect stop lamp switch.
c. Loosen stop light switch locknut, then back out switch.
d. Loosen pushrod locknut.
e. Adjust pedal height by turning pedal pushrod until the pedal height is within specifications.
f. Return stop light switch until its clearance is 0.02-0.09 inch on all models except LS400 and 0.06-0.10 inch on LS400 models, then tighten locknut and connect switch, Fig. 5.

g. Ensure stop lights operate correctly.
h. After adjusting pedal height, check and adjust pedal freeplay as outlined under Brake Pedal Freeplay.
