Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair
1. Disable airbag system as described under Technician Safety Information.

2. Remove right and left front pillar garnish, Fig. 17.

3. Using a Torx 30 (special tool 09042-00010) or equivalent, loosen screws from wheel pad, Fig. 1. Pull wheel pad out and disconnect airbag connector. Store airbag face up.

4. Remove steering wheel retaining nut and disconnect connector, Fig. 2. Place scribe marks on steering wheel and shaft, then remove steering wheel using special tool SST 09213-31021, or equivalent.
5. Remove three screws and steering column covers.
6. Slide shift lever shaft collar downward and remove two screws, then remove shift knob.
7. Remove upper console rear panel as follows:
a. Open ash tray lid.
b. Lift console panel towards you.
c. Insert your finger in shift lever groove and pull console panel upward away from you.
d. Remove panel.
8. Open cup holder lid, then pull up cup holder to remove it.

9. Remove six screws and pry out upper console panel, Fig. 18.
10. Remove six bolts and radio with A/C control assembly, then disconnect connectors.
11. Using a clip remover, remove two clips and No. 2 undercover.
12. Remove screw caps, two upper screws and two lower screws, then No. 2 lower finish panel and glove box assembly.
13. Remove three screws, then using a screwdriver, remove No. 1 undercover.

14. Remove five screws, three bolts and console box, Fig. 19.
15. Using a screwdriver, pry out center pad and remove it.
16. Remove two screws and engine hood release lever, then disconnect release cable from lever.
17. Remove No. 1 lower finish panel as follows:
a. Using a screwdriver, remove end pad.
b. Remove one bolt and two screws.
c. Disconnect connectors and remove panel.
18. Remove combination switch.
19. Pull out cluster finish panel and disconnect connector.
20. Remove two screw caps and screws from combination meter, then remove combination meter and disconnect connectors.
21. Remove one screw and pull out No. 2 heater register duct.
22. Remove one screw and pull out No. 4 heater register duct.

23. Using a clip remover, remove two clips, then remove two bolts, three nuts and safety pad, Fig. 20.

24. Remove five screws, clips and wire harness from safety pad, Fig. 21.

25. Disassemble safety pad as follows in Fig. 22.:
a. Safety pad garnish.
b. No. 1 instrument panel register.
c. No. 1 side defroster nozzle.
d. No. 2 side defroster nozzle.
e. No. 1 defroster nozzle garnish.
f. No. 2 defroster nozzle garnish.
g. No. 1 heater to register duct.
h. No. 5 heater to register duct.
i. Defroster nozzle.

26. Remove four bolts and seven nuts to remove reinforcement as shown in Fig. 23.
27. Reverse procedure to install. Rearm airbag system as described under Technician Safety Information.
