Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection

1. REMOVE BATTERY CLAMP COVER
2. REMOVE V-BANK COVER
- Remove the 2 cap nuts, bolt and V-bank cover.
3. WARM UP ENGINE
- Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.





4. CONNECT LEXUS HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBDII SCAN TOOL
- Connect the hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool to the DLC3.

Please refer to the hand-held tester or OBDII scan tool operator's manual for further details.





5. CONNECT TIMING LIGHT TO ENGINE
- Connect the tester probe of a timing light to the high-tension cord for No.6 cylinder.
6. CHECK IDLE SPEED
- Race the engine speed at 2,500 rpm for approx. 90 seconds.
- Check the idle speed.

Idle speed: 700 ± 50 rpm





7. INSPECT IGNITION TIMING
- Using SST, connect terminals TE1 andE1 of the DLC1.

- Using a timing light. check the ignition timing.

Ignition timing: 8 - 12° BTDC @ Idle
(Transmission In neutral position)

- Remove the SST from the DLC1.

8. DISCONNECT TIMING LIGHT FROM ENGINE
9. DISCONNECT LEXUS HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBDII SCAN TOOL
10. REINSTALL V-BANK COVER
11. REINSTALL BATTERY CLAMP COVER
