Installation

First Of Two:





1. Install the steering column assembly and do the following.
a. Tighten the four column assembly set nuts to 25 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
b. Connect the connectors.

2. Install the intermediate shaft assembly and tighten the bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the intermediate shaft assembly, doing these steps.





a. Align the matchmarks on the intermediate shaft and control valve shaft.
b. Tighten the bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs).
4. Install the spiral cable.
5. Install the combination switch with the spiral cable and do the following.
a. Tighten the three screws.
b. Connect the airbag connector.
c. If the vehicle has the electronic modulated suspension, connect the connector.
d. Connect the three connectors.
6. Install the lower finish panel.
7. Install the left hand lower panel and tighten the four bolts.
8. Install the No.1 lower panel, performing the following.
a. Connect the hood lock control cable.
b. Tighten the two screws.
9. Install the cowl side trim, then install the clip.
10. Install the inside front door scuff plate
11. Install the upper and lower column covers and do the following.
a. Tighten the three screws.
b. Install the lower No.2 cover to the lower cover.
12. Install the center spiral cable and do the following.
a. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.





b. Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn the cable. Then rotate the cable clockwise about 3 turns to align the mark.

NOTE: The cable will rotate about three turns to either left or right of the center.

13. Install the steering wheel and do these procedures.
a. Align the matchmarks on the wheel and main shaft.
b. Tighten the wheel set nut to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
c. Connect the connector.

14. Install the steering wheel pad and do the following.

NOTE:
^ Make sure the wheel pad is installed to the specified torque.
^ If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
^ When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and are not pinched between other parts.

a. Connect the airbag connector.





b. Install the pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torx screw is caught on the screw case.
c. Using a torx socket wrench, tighten the two screws to 7.1 Nm (63 inch lbs.).
d. Install the two steering wheel lower No.2 covers.

15. Check the steering wheel center point
