Tachometer - Incorrect Indication
ELECTRICALEL006-98
Title:
INCORRECT INDICATION OF TACHOMETER
Models:
"98 GS 300/400
April 10, 1998
Introduction
The ECU-B1 (20 amp) fuse on 1998 model year GS 300s and GS 400s is removed to prevent battery discharge while in transit or storage. In this transit/storage condition, if the ignition switch is turned off at a point when the engine speed is greater than 5,000 RPM, the tachometer needle will fall down to the full scale position (8,000 RPM) due to its own weight.
^ When the ignition switch is turned ON, the tachometer needle points to the full scale position (8,000 RPM) instead of 0 RPM.
^ After the engine is operated over about 3,000 RPM, the tachometer operates normally again.
Affected Vehicles
^ All 1998 model year GS 300s and GS 400s.
Service Procedure
^ This condition is normal, this will not occur after the ECU-B1 fuse is installed to the original position of the No. 1 Relay Block in the engine compartment.
^ To correct, turn OFF the engine during idle or while operating at less than 4,000 RPM to prevent incorrect indication of the tachometer with the ECU-B1 fuse removed.
