ACCELERATOR PEDAL VIBRATION

Introduction





To reduce vibration of the accelerator pedal, the accelerator control cable and bracket have been revised. A mass damper has also been added to the intake air resonator.

Affected Vehicles

^ 1998 model year GS 300s built before VIN JT8BD68S*W0034321.

^ All parts and procedures listed in this bulletin apply to all '98 GS 300s built before VIN JT8BD68S*W0020317.

^ JT8BD68S*W0020317 through W0025181 already have the new Accelerator Control Cable Bracket installed. Only procedures 2 and 3 are applicable.

^ JT8BD68S*W0025182 through W0034320 have both the new Accelerator Control Cable Bracket and new Accelerator Control Cable installed. Only procedure 3 of this bulletin (Mass Damper and Air Intake Seal) is applicable.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Lexus Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's complaint.

Repair Procedure

NOTE:
Perform only the applicable procedures required by production range indicated.





1. Replace Accelerator Control Cable Bracket (P/N 22268-46010) on vehicles built before VIN 0020317.

a. Remove accelerator control cable from the bracket.

b. Remove two bolts from bracket.

c. Install new accelerator control cable bracket.





2. Replace Accelerator Control Cable (P/N 78180-3A650) on vehicles built before VIN 0025182.

a. Remove original accelerator control cable from the bracket as shown.

b. Remove end of cable from accelerator pedal.

c. Remove two bolts from cable.

d. Install new cable in reverse order and adjust free play.





3. Install Air Intake Bracket No. 2 (mass damper, P/N 17873-46010) on vehicles built before VIN 0034321.

a. Remove two bolts from air resonator brackets.

b. Remove Intake Air Resonator foam seal.

c. Install new foam Air Intake Seal (P/N 17867-46010) to intake duct.

d. Using the original* No. 1 bracket (top) and bolts, install the No. 2 bracket (bottom).

CAUTION:
Insure that the top bracket and bottom bracket will not move after installation.

* Do not replace top bracket unless damaged Part number is supplied for reference only.
