Introduction
For 1998 LS 400, GS 300/400, SC 300/400 and ES 300, when using a key containing a transponder chip, observe the precautions when starting the engine, either of which may cause the engine to either not start or shut off shortly after starting.
1. The key ring should not rest on or be pressed against the key grip.
2. Do not place any other transponder equipped items, including keys, on the same ring as the one with the key used to start the vehicle.
3. If the above precautions are not observed and a problem occurs, remove the key from the ignition, remove the other transponder items from the key ring and try starting the engine again. Alternately, it may be possible to start the engine by covering the other transponder items with your hand prior to starting the engine.
